Demi Lovato said goodbye to one of the most important people in her life Sunday morning — her 93-year-old great-grandmother, "Mimaw."

The pop star knew the end was coming, and in recent weeks, she reached out to fans and asked for prayers on social media. But knowing it was coming didn't make it any easier.

"This morning I lost my world and the world's most special woman," Lovato wrote in a heartbreaking tribute on Instagram. "I miss her more than words can even describe. There is an emptiness in my heart that only her spirit can fill and I pray that I will feel her by my side every single day until we meet again."

Until then, she intends to weather her grief as just as her Mimaw — who'd recently lost her husband of 53 years and her son — weathered her own.

"She told everyone she loved them every single chance she got and she joked even when her strokes left her unable to speak properly," Lovato explained. "The smile that she had not only could light up a whole room but it most definitely lit up the entire nursing home."

"Mimaw, I hope you are with Papa now," the 23-year-old wrote. "I hate that I can't hear your voice but I love that you are no longer in pain."

Then, in one last message dedicated to Mimaw, she added, "Forever will never be the same without you."

In the days before her great-grandmother's death, Lovato urged her fans to cherish their loved ones while they can.
