Marriage is about give and take, but here's a tip: Don't take your wife's beloved childhood book and give it away!

That's a lesson one Brooklyn husband has learned after he tossed a copy of Judy Blume's "Are You There God? It's Me, Margaret" into a giveaway box on the street. Now he's on a desperate search to right his wrong — and he's about to get some major help.

"I accidentally gave this book away on Saturday July 25th in a box on the corner of Green & Franklin Streets in Greenpoint," a lost-book poster spotted in the area reads. "The book is extremely important to my wife. It was a keepsake from her mother and is irreplaceable. On the inside cover is a note that reads 'Christmas 1991.' If you happened to pick up this book can you please get in touch with me."

While the man is likely — and understandably! — getting some grumpy looks from his wife these days, her frown is about to turn around.

This tale has made it to Blume herself.

Looks like someone's big mistake will soon turn out to be a big boon.

TODAY reached out to the author and she told us: "This story will have a happy ending. Here's a guy who cares enough to try to get his wife's book back. If he does, great. If he doesn't, she'll forgive him. Either way, I'm sending her a signed book."
