Bear Grylls knows traveling light in the wilderness is important. But the outdoors expert couldn't resist taking one semi-unnecessary item in his backpack when he went camping with the president of the United States.

In a special sneak peek clip from the upcoming "Running Wild with Bear Grylls," which airs on NBC Thursday, Grylls and President Obama, who trekked around the Alaskan wilderness in September, pause before a stream ... and Grylls asks a favor.

He wants to know if Obama will autograph something for his wife. Certainly, says the president ... and then he sees the object: a bottle opener sticking out of a figurine of Obama's head.

"It's possible that that bottle opener is a little dated," said Obama. "I noticed for example that there was no gray hair on the Obama figurine. And clearly, the presidency has taken a little bit of a toll."

Check out the whole clip, and tune in Thursday for "Running Wild with Bear Grylls," featuring President Barack Obama, at 10 p.m. ET on NBC.
