All parents look at their children strangely when all of the sudden they have a reaction to a stranger. One may say, that it is funny that their child is acting that way considering they have never been shy before. Personally, I had never heard of stranger anxiety and found that it explained a great deal. Also, learning that it is at the age of 7 months when infants begin to feel this anxiety explains the sudden change in behavior. One would assume that if their child were shy, they would be shy from the beginning rather than acquiring this behavior later. The text also reminds the reader that if a child can recognize who they know than they can also recognize someone they do not know. Having this anxiety is common among infants.
