The most recent product to reach this status? The Wonderskin Wonder Blading Lip Stain Masque. If you've scrolled through the beauty side of TikTok recently, you'll see tons of viral videos of people applying this electric blue lip product to their lips, only to reveal a stunning shade of cherry or pink.
So when the product list for our Shop TODAY Beauty Awards testing dropped, I quickly put my name down to try the viral stain. After a few weeks of wearing, there was no doubt in my mind that this would become a winner this year, and in fact, it won for "most viral lip stain." Below are every reason why I love it.
How I tried the Wonderskin Wonder Blading Lip Stain Masque
It's easy and fun to apply
The lip stain comes in nearly 20 colors, offering a variety of pinks, reds and natural shades. If you know me, I love a deep cherry, so I opted for the color Bella.
The product applies like any lip product — just very blue at first! And since it's so bright, I had a very clear guideline of where I was gliding on my lips, so it was easy to apply evenly, and I didn't end up accidentally overlining my lips. The brand says you can leave it on for 10 to 30 seconds, and the longer you leave it on, the more the color will develop. I love a bolder lip, so I left it on for the full 30 seconds while I did my mascara.
Yes, during this time, you will look like you're part of an avant-garde project, but trust the process. When time was up, I took a damp tissue and wiped away the blue, revealing a stunning shade.
Why I like the Wonderskin Wonder Blading Lip Stain Masque
The formula is long-lasting and transfer-proof
The finish of the lip stain is matte and so natural-looking that it looks like I was born with a naturally cherry-colored pout and not my usual ghostly pale lips. Plus, it lasts for a long time and doesn't transfer! I applied it before work, and during that time, I drank water, coffee and ate lunch. The color held up for most of the day, not starting to fade until mid-afternoon. I also like that it didn't leave marks on my mug or straw either.
The brand says the Wonder Blading Lip Stain Masque is an alternative to "microblading," the semi-permanent process of tattooing color on your lips. So you get the long-lasting stain without the commitment to one color!
What to consider
- It may feel too dry for some. While the product boasts hydrating ingredients such as glycerin and squalane, it has a matte finish, which can be very drying for my chapped lips.
- Pair it with a lip balm or gloss. To combat that, I just applied my favorite lip balm over it, and the problem was solved! The brand even suggests pairing the stain with a gloss for extra hydration and a shiny effect. I also found that doing so makes the stain last longer and enhances the color.
The brand calls this lip stain a patented technology that "infuses pigments and dyes into the top layer of lips," but I call it plain magic. It's so fun and natural to wear that I will add more colors to cart ASAP.
